It all started with one fun little scooter.

Back in 2008, Sam (Class of ’05) watched a coworker roll up on a scooter and instantly fall in love with how much fun it was. It was so much fun, the whole office started scheduling lunches around the scooter. Sam bought his own and quickly realized it was the perfect way to beat College Station traffic, save money on gas, run errands, and even rip around the paddock as a pit bike at the racetrack.

A few years later, his neighbor Jacob — another Aggie — was tired of burning gas in his Jeep and fighting for parking on campus. Jacob asked if he could rent Sam’s scooter during the week. They worked out a simple deal: $3 a day for “shared custody.” Jacob got it Monday through Friday for campus life. Sam got it back for nights and weekends. It worked perfectly.

Then one day a post went up on TexAgs: “Is there anywhere in town to rent scooters?”

Sam was already doing this informally, so he started researching what it would take to make it official. That single post lit the spark. The idea of Scoots was born — not just rentals, but a full one-stop shop for sales, service, and repairs that Aggies could actually trust.

It took two years of hard work to line up funding and find the perfect location. In March 2014, Scoots officially opened its doors at 2048 Texas Ave S. What began as one guy sharing his scooter with a neighbor has grown into Aggieland’s go-to spot for mopeds, motor scooters, motorcycles, e-scooters, and e-bikes. In 2023 Scoots bought a building of their very own at 1600 Texas Ave S, a former liquor store decades ago, then coffee shop.. both of which Sam frequented.

Today we’re still 100% Aggie-owned, still in the same spirit of solving real student problems: crazy parking, high gas prices, and the need for fun, reliable transportation that actually fits campus life.

And we’re just getting started.
